Shading involves a careful consideration of how light will play over the image in its overall visual environment. This step cannot be emphasized too greatly-- shading is what transforms otherwise "flat" drawings into dynamic, interesting works of art. The more levels of shading that are applied, the more "solid" the picture appears to be. Shading can take many hours to do on a complex figure, but is a neccessary step before Colouring. |
